About ACCA

ACCA is Melbourne’s premier venue for international and local contemporary visual art.

Designed by Melbourne based architects, Wood Marsh, ACCA’s distinctive steel building opened its doors to the public in October 2002. Since its inauguration it has received popular and critical acclaim nationally and internationally and attracted a loyal and growing audience.

ACCA’s exhibition program, overseen by renowned Artistic Director, Juliana Engberg, brings the newest and the best contemporary art to Melbourne audiences. The program combines originally conceived group exhibitions with new commissions from prominent and emerging Australian and international artists.

ACCA’s Front of House and Volunteer Programs

Visitor Services
ACCA’s visitor numbers exceed 140,000 annually, including participants in public programs and events. Its growing audience is loyal, committed and diverse. Visitor surveys conducted by Roy Morgon Research reveal that 96% of visitors intend to return and 36% return more than 4 times a year. ACCA attracts creative, intelligent, culturally interested and socially aware people of varying ages and occupations.

ACCA has a comparatively low marketing budget and channels its limited resources into low cost direct communication methods. The majority of visitors cite word of mouth or media as the motivator for their visit. Front of house staff and invigilators play a key role in promoting a fulfilling visitor experience for ACCA audiences. The ACCA team is approachable and well informed about the art on display, welcoming enquiries from visitors wishing to engage in discussion about ACCA programs. Visitors indicate a high level of satisfaction with visitor services and cite the friendly helpful staff as an important part of their experience.

ACCA’s visitor services include reception, a modest bookshop facility, the ACCA coffee cart and an online information facility, Infocube.

Volunteer Program
ACCA’s highly regarded Volunteer Program provides professional development opportunities for many young artists and arts professionals wishing to work in the arts industry. ACCA relies on the contribution of a large number of volunteers who work in a variety of roles including front of house reception, events, mailouts and other administrative duties. Working as an ACCA volunteer is a potential stepping stone to paid casual work and other professional opportunities. ACCA volunteers are a community who share interests and information as well as attending regular training sessions.
