THE ALLEGORICAL IMPERATIVE:
GREG CREEK'S SLOW HOMECOMING

01 August - 21 September 2003

A major survey exhibition by one of Australia’s foremost allegorical portraitists and narrative painters. This exhibition includes a massive new table top drawing that occupies the large hall at ACCA and dramatically plays the huge cavernous scale of the hall off against the minutiae involved in Creek’s meticulous drawing details and scatological jottings.

Creek was the 1996 recipient of the Moran Portraiture Prize, which he won for his elegant, and modernist turned painting of partner Carolyn Eskdale. Most recently his work has been include in the Federation Projects exhibition with a series of political allegories that cast well-known contemporary and historical figures into tableaux of political satire and commentary.
